Fall meal rotation
This month I have been concentrating on ideas to create a sound meal planning system that actually works, read how a dinner formula changed my life. For real. Using this formula, I have come up with my custom Fall meal rotation menu that works like a charm.
Here’s why meal rotation works

- it saves time
- it helps you keep your sanity!
Grocery shopping is so much easier once you start using the meal rotation system. Every Friday you can sit down with your calendar and prepare your shopping list and there’s no guess-work. You know exactly what you need to make the meals you have scheduled for that week. You won’t be hovering around the grocery store racking your brain for meal ideas.
Saving money is a side effect of the meal rotation plan. How many times have you went to the supermarket and over spent because you thought you’d make this meal or that meal? Or grabbed food on the fly, after doing your shopping, because you weren’t prepared ahead for dinner? It has happened to me a lot! That’s why I started using the dinner formula to plan my family meals. You can budget much easier when you know what you need.
You’ll save time and put that time towards something you want to do. You make specific grocery list so your time spent shopping is cut down. Ingredients like “meat” turn into ground beef or sole, therefore, instead of trying to decide what to buy, you know what to buy.
Once you’re home, you’ll have all the ingredients you need for your weekly meals, and there’s no running back to the supermarket over and over (more time saved). You won’t be searching for meal ideas at 3 o’clock every afternoon because you will already know what you will be cooking. Again, saving time.
Best of all, you’ll save your sanity. You won’t have the added pressure of making a decision on what to cook for your family because it’s all be planned out for you.
If you haven’t already, I suggest you read my post on How a Dinner Formula Can Change Your Life. This will set the foundation for your new meal plans. Then sit down with a pen and paper and jot down the theme days that will work for your family. Use ideas that suit you and your cooking style. Now, you can fill in each day of the month with a meal that you know you will cook within that particular theme.
Once you have your meal planner completed, there’s no work left to do because you’ll be using it for three months. The rotation systems is just that, you rotate your Fall menu for three months, then move onto the Winter menu. You don’t have to do this, but sometimes our palates change according to the seasons. I’ll be posting my Winter Meal Rotation shortly, so stay tuned.

Fall – September, October, November
Winter – December, January, February
Spring – March, April, May
Summer – June, July, August
Time well spent
You may be thinking this is too much work. but it really isn’t when you think about all the time you spend trying to come up with meal ideas. Plus, you can keep many of the meals the same throughout the seasons and add a few seasonal favourites.
Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of light meals and grilling, where as in the Winter we prefer hearty meals that warm us up. Nothing is written in stone, if one meal isn’t working, change it. If something happens to change in your life, change the meals accordingly. You’re in charge!
